Moving a Pool Table
The most common misconception about moving a pool table is that all you will need is a lot of manpower. You will need lots of hands, but also knowledge on disassembling pool tables. Some tables, like the ones in bars or tournaments, are one piece slate with a solid frame, and only the legs come off. These tables do require a lot of manpower, and can also be dangerous. This is because they weigh anywhere between 600 and 700 lbs. This size table is 3 and 1/2 X 7 feet.
Most home tables are three piece slate. The frames of home tables usually piece together, but are also solid, and the legs can be taken off of the frame. Sometimes there are many parts that need to be taken apart before being moved. The rails and pockets will need to be disassembled properly. If you attempt to move a three piece slate table in one piece, it is extremely likely that a pock or rail will break. These repairs are costly, almost as much as half the value of the table itself!
Three piece slate tables come in various sizes, 3 1/2 X 7 feet, 4 X 8 feet, and 4 1/2 X 9 feet. They are extremely heavy, and not designed to be moved in one piece. The disassembly and moving of the table is the easier part, but putting it back together is a completely different game. If you need to move your pool table, it is in your best interest to leave the work to a professional, so you can save yourself time and money.
